Bug Description

Binary package hint: tomboy

I've been having trouble synchronizing my notes recently, which caused the notes to be re-uploaded from the server and conflicting with the local ones, thus duplicating them.

Whenever there are such conflicts, it would be useful to have a button in the conflicts dialog to be able to cancel synchronization, without having to click on the window close button for each note (it can be tedious when you've got hundreds of notes).

This is indeed a missing feature in tomboy, which won't be fixed until the next cycle (1.2), so the best way to fix this is to remove all notes from the server and start over.

Sorry for the inconvenience

Well, sorry, just re-read my last comment, and it's not the best thing to do indeed. If you remove notes from the server, they would be removed from Tomboy also. So to start from scratch, remove all notes from the server, and restart the authorization process from Tomboy (Preferences->Syncing, then clear, and 'connect to server again'). If you just remove the notes, as I said, they will be removed from Tomboy also, so please don't do it.

As for why there were conflicts, did you do changes on the server and on Tomboy for the same notes?

No worries Rodrigo, thanks for the update. I did not remove the notes from the server, and I do keep a separate backup in case something goes wrong.

I did not do any changes. What I did was:

1) Sync local notes to server from computer 1. Success.
2) Sync local notes to server from computer 2. It failed with an empty "Details" message. It didn't seem to push the local notes to the server, but it downloaded some notes from there.
3) Try to sync notes again from computer 2. It re-fetches notes from the server, which clash with the notes already uploaded in step 2). It then asks me what to do on each and every conflict, without letting me cancel the whole process.

Apart from that, the whole Tomboy synching is awesome!

Tomboy is now at v 1.2.1, and this issue is still present (Ubuntu 10.04).

I also want to add that simply closing the conflict pop-up window does NOT cancel the operation. Instead it makes tomboy go forward with the default operation, which for me was to overwrite the local version of my notes by the online version. Unfortunately it took me a while to understand that this was happening (it is not what one would expect!), so I had to restore my entire Tomboy directory from backups.

Andreas, please file the window closing behavior as a separate bug (in GNOME bugzilla, please). That is a good catch and I don't want it forgotten.
