in 'file:///home/jan/Downloads/freewrl/files/bolt.wrl'

  ^
Expected root node statement inside PROTO body.

This file does indeed open with freewrl

The grammar http://www.web3d.org/documents/specifications/19776-2/V3.0/Part02/grammar.html says there shall be a root node statement, only then it is a valid X3D file.

I think this would be an additional feature.

PROTO statements can now have an empty body like freewrl it does.
