Failure after upgrade while timer is running

Bug Description

I upgraded the Timer app while the timer was running. After the update, the timer app showed the timer was running but with the time frozen (not counting down). I tried killing the timer app (swipe up app after swiping from right edge) and then restarting it, at which point it would no longer start.

After phone reboot the app does start but thinks I don't have a timer running although I can still see a Timer entry if I swipe down "Time & Date" from the top edge.

Thanks for your bug report.
If I understand you correctly, you can see a timer set before the update in the Time & Date indicator. And if you start the Timer app it just shows 00:00:00. The reason for that is that the Timer app use Alarm API. When you set a timer and click 'start' button, the alarm is created. You can access that alarm from the Clock app and edit or delete it there if you wish. The Timer app after restart has no access to alarms already created and can't read them even if it was the alarm created by the Timer app itself.
So if you want to remove the timer from the indicator, you can do that from the Clock app.
I hope that helps. Please, let me know if you have any more questions.

Hi Michal,

No, the bug I'm reporting is that the Timer app screws up if it is upgraded while it is running.

I appreciate the difficulties involved given the limitations of the Alarm API - and I'm even more impressed how well you have managed to work around them - thank you!

I wonder if both the limitation here and when happens to the app if upgraded while running are more platform issues rather than bugs in this app? If so, is there a better (API-related) project to which this bug could be reassigned?

OK, now I get what you mean. Thanks for clarification.
TBH I'm not sure who is to blame in this situation. If it is the app itself, update system, API or some temporary phone malfunction. Unfortunately I don't know much about system internals to say anything worth saying in this matter.

Just to be clear: does the Timer app works for you now, or is not possible to set any timer any more?

It's working again now, thanks. I didn't want to mess with it until the
previous timer had expired, but now it has and it works as normal.
