Bug Description

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

If you save a file and the filename already exists, Thunderbird asks if you want to overwrite the file.

The two options given are "Ok" and "Cancel". If you press "Ok", it overwrites the file. If you press "Cancel", it prompts you for a different name. Very Microsoftish.

The options should be changed to "Overwrite" and "Rename" (and maybe include a third button for "Cancel" as well).

well, there's bug 107560, but that's not what i'm thinking of.

look for mpt bugs reinventing the world.

reporter: fair warning: mpt doesn't believe in yes/no.
imo it's the correct pair of buttons for a yes/no question.
mpt believes that you can use verbs (?) to answer yes no questions

Not a dupe; that's a different dialog. Xref bug 130789, which requests individual bugs filed for individual dialogs/alerts.

Bug 329640 was just checked in (to the suite) to change an OK/Cancel to a
Yes/No, so this request may be OK; but alternate wording or alternate button labels are recommended.

"Ok"/"Cancel" is most definitely bad and wrong. It should be "Overwrite" and "Rename" instead. But should probably throw a "Cancel" in there as well, for the occasional moments when someone changes their mind about what directory they're saving to.

This bug applies throughout the Mozilla suite whenever a yes/no question is asked and the user is expected to respond to an ok/cancel prompt.
