Bug Description
Running the self-tests on Ubuntu 16.04 yields a lot of errors.
The common denominator seems to be missing/differences in pythonmocks.
This behavior has been reproduced inside a VM, which I will try to supply a snapshot of.

Done lots of self-tests work since migrating to Python 3. They work for me on Ubuntu 18.04 now.
