Screen like copy/paste mode

First thank you all for the Terminator.
I'm using the screen as login command just for it's "edit mode" but having this function in Terminator natively would be great. Most of the time I'm taking off my hand from keyboard to mouse just for a simple copy/paste operation.

No idea how this would work in practice, with the current VTE API, but it's an interesting idea to consider, thanks!

I actually started working on this, since it's been my itch as well. But IMHO a more generic approach will be tmux integration (work in progress) as it provides this functionality along its arsenal. The ongoing progress captured here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/terminator/+bug/1301605 .

While tmux may provide a more generic approach, not everyone will want to run tmux. Was your work based on tmux, or entirely separate? Is it abandoned now? Is there a branch in Launchpad in case someone else wanted to pick it up and continue with it?
