Bug Description

steps:
configure profile - general - font with google's roboto mono
launch midnight commander or nmon

results:
vertical lines will be interrupted

---

using other monospaced fonts, vertical lines are continuous (and I believe this happens to ALL characters not just those vertical lines)

I tried searching roboto's github for issues for something similar but could not find anything relevant.

using roboto in gnome-terminal or xfce4-terminal works okay, but putty on windows exhibits the same behaviour as terminator, which makes me believe this is something wrong with roboto (it's not even marked as a fixed pitch size font so putty on windows will not load it unless you tick the box to load variable sized fonts) that triggers an unexpected (but probably correct) rendering in terminator and in putty.

Given the last update for roboto is more than a year a go (Latest commit 5700de8 on Aug 2, 2017) I don't have high hopes in a fast fix by google so I'm putting my hopes on terminator to find the root cause and attempt a workaround. it's a very attractive and useful monospaced font but i see lots of issues with it in their github.
