Keypress Callback

I've written a plugin that needs to be informed when key press events occur so that it can take action, as appropriate.

I'm doing this at the moment by checking for a callback function on the terminal in on_keypress() in terminal.py and, if found, executing it. Is there an existing mechanism to do this, where shortcuts could be assigned to plugin actions?
