The following bug may have inadvertently led to a fix for a number of issues with focus and window z-order when opening new windows and unhiding a hidden one.

Please retest revision 1715, and report if this bug is still reproducible.

This still happens with revision 1725. I also noticed that the title of the subwindow is not properly drawn until the new terminator window gains focus.

Yup I can reproduce. Just to clarify and confirm the steps to reproduce:
1. Open Terminator with icon/shortcut and DBus on,
2. Move a non Terminator window to the front/focus
3. Repeat step 1
Second window opens in background with transparent background in titlebar (icon and text is there, though hard to see)

If Terminator has focus then the second window opens in foreground, with focus and fully rendered titlebar.
