Bug Description

When using Terminator on a 4k/HiDPI display the window sizing and font sizing do not adhere to Gnome's HiDPI settings.. menus, tabs, title bar, and preferences are all exceedingly tiny. Terminal FONT is also tiny.

Which version are you raising this against. Main trunk GTK2? Unlikely to ever get HiDPI. GTK3 port? If so, then it is worth investigating.

I installed from the source code terminator from gtk3 branch following the guide in https://gnometerminator.blogspot.com.ar/2015/09/so-you-want-to-try-terminator-gtk3.html?showComment=1469538330989

The commands I entered:
sudo apt install bzr
sudo apt install gir1.2-keybinder-0.0 gir1.2-keybinder-3.0 libkeybinder-3.0-0
sudo apt install build-essential intltool libgtk-3-dev
sudo apt install gobject-introspection libgirepository1.0-dev valac gir1.2-gconf-2.0
sudo apt install python-psutil
bzr branch http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~gnome-terminator/terminator/gtk3/ gtk3-terminator
cd gtk3-terminator
./terminator -g temp_config -u

I started up a terminator based on gtk3 that scales better on my 4k monitor.

Well gtk3 is released and it fixes the original problem, so I'm going to shut this bug down.
