Bug Description

This is a wishlist/feature request for bahaviour similar to e.g. Firefox's "remote" commands: running a command (like opening a new tab with a given URL) in an already opened Terminator window. I think it could be quite convenient for users of connection managers.

(All this info exists in the manual released with 0.98 too)

Marking as invalid, as it already exists.

Changed in terminator:
status: New → Invalid

OK, I'm probably still missing something, but:

a) the '--new-tab' command line option of the 'terminator' command works (if I have the DBus server option enabled), but doesn't allow me to specify a connection:

[gstaniak@inka ~]$ terminator --new-tab 'root@127.0.0.1'
Usage: terminator [options]

terminator: error: Additional unexpected arguments found: ['root@127.0.0.1']
[gstaniak@inka ~]$

b) for the 'remotinator' command, the docs say:

The following commands are currently enabled:

hsplit - Split the current terminal horizontally
vsplit - Split the current terminal vertically
terminals - Get a list of all terminals
terminal_tab - Get the UUID of a parent tab
terminal_tab_title - Get the title of a parent tab

so yes, I can split a window, but I can't specify a connection for the new window (when I try to, the argument is silently ignored).

I just can't see a way to tell the running instance of terminator something like 'split this window and connect to root@127.0.0.1 in the new window', or 'create a new tab with a connection to root@127.0.0.1'.

The use case is opening connections from managers like SSHMenu or SSHplus, i.e. running a command to connect to the specified ssh server.

Ah, OK, now I see. Yup, that's a new command/feature that needs adding to the dbus interface.
