Bug Description

If setting "always_split_with_profile" in the configuration file to True I get the expected behaviour of keeping the profile in a new split/tab. But if terminator is invoked by using "terminator --new-tab" then the created tab goes back to using the "default" profile.

I'm using Debian Jessie with up to date packages and terminator from the distro with version 0.97-2. Using GNOME.

Hmmm. It's kind of in the config name... "split" not "new term". I'm not sure how/why this would be needed. If I'm focussed on a terminal and want a new tab I hit Ctrl+Shift+T. If I want the new tab elsewhere, how do I determine where? Where am I running the command from. I just don't "get" the use case.

Changed in terminator:
importance: Undecided → Wishlist
status: New → Incomplete

The use case is that if I start most terminals in profiles (say, they're on different machines with a custom_command of ssh), I want axis splits to yield new terminals in the same place as the old one, not on the machine I ran terminator on.

(See also my newly raised bug 1600609, which fixes the same thing because Launchpad's search sucks enough that I didn't spot this bug in time.)
