Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

I tried using SIP with Empathy on an Ubuntu 8.10 laptop connected to the network via a DHCP wireless connection which AFAIK doesn't have UPnP.

When I attempt to add my Ekiga.net account to Empathy, I get a rather unhelpful error that just says "Network error". There is really not enough information here -- this is not enough information to be able to work out what's wrong, and to know whether or not I can expect to FIX this, or whether my internet access is unsatisfactory for using this kind of communication channel (requiring support for incoming ports).

Empathy needs to solve these sorts of things if it is to have any chance of competing with Skype.

Could you attach telepathy-sofiasip log please? See http://live.gnome.org/Empathy/Debugging about how to do that.

Using the command:
SOFIASIP_DEBUG=all empathy

or
SOFIASIP_LOGFILE=/mnt/files/temp/sofiasip.log empathy

doesn't produce any output to console or file. Am I doing something wrong?

NAT traversal works for many other SIP accounts, but unfortunately not for ekiga.net. This is upstream bug

For debugging sofiasip, try this before starting empathy: "SOFIASIP_DEBUG=all SOFIASIP_PERSIST=1 /usr/lib/telepathy/telepathy-sofiasip >/tmp/sofiasip.log 2>&1 &"

This is still a problem in 2.27.2

I was able to change it to "Discover STUN" wait, and then change it back and it will connect. Seems like it connected fine at first and then after a while just got the "Network Error". Perhaps Ekiga is booting the client for refreshing too much?

I think my sip account does not connect - but I do not get a network error. But none of my calls succeed.

I am getting this on Linux Mint 9 (Ubuntu 10.04) with empathy 2.30.3. I am behind a firewall and connecting to an ekiga.net account results in an "network error". I can connect to a another sip provider. Connecting with ekiga to the ekiga account works.
