Bug Description
When I boot my machine and log in to my session, the IM status in the messaging menu is initially 'available'.
If I try to change it to 'offline' from the messaging menu, the status isn’t updated, no matter how many times I click the entry in the menu (the green light remains on in the bottom-right corner of the envelope and the entry selected in the menu is still 'available').
If I launch empathy from the messaging menu, and then change the status from the messaging menu, the status is then correctly updated.

The messaging menu doesn't set any status itself, it only reflects the status of all registered applications.
So this is really a bug in telepathy- indicator, which (a) tells the messaging menu that it is online when it is not and (b) doesn't react when the messaging menu tells it to go offline.
It might be similar to bug #1046360.
