Country filter in add account is broken

Bug Description
When first starting telegram-app for desktop (inside a xenial lxd container), I can select my country from the list by scrolling down and clicking on it. But when I click the search button and start typing, the list of countries becomes empty, even though I type a valid substring. See attached screenshot.
If I type 'neth', 'netherlands' should be shown below but it does not. Also for other substrings I do not get correct results.

Today I did not seem to have this issue any more. I don't know why.
