Bug Description

Telegram fails to open after updating to version: 2.0.8.0, can't get past splash-screen. Restarted device a few times, still no luck. Notification for a new message is apparently working fine.

Device: bq Aquaris E5 HD, Ubuntu 15.04 (OTA-9.1)

UPDATE: The problem persists after updating to 2.0.8.1

On the MX4 the application starts but logging in fails. I get a code but the type it in, it just sits there. This is an improvement over 2.0.4.0 here it complained about the app not supporting 2-step verification.

App does not start on MX4. Notifications are coming through just fine though.

Same on bq E4.5. After launching the app, it opens just a moment and crashes then. Notification works.

Can you try deleting the file ./home/phablet/cache/QML/Apps/com.ubuntu.telegram_telegram_*

I have the same problem. My telegram does not start.

I deleted the directories ./home/phablet/cache/QML/Apps/com.ubuntu.telegram_telegram_*
but this also did not help :(

@Pat McGowan I just tried what you suggested but it didn't work. Here's what I did:
1. There were three such folders (for last three releases 2.0.8.1, 2.0.8.0 & 2.0.4-something). I deleted all the three using file manager.
2. Then launched Telegram. Same failing at the splash screen.
3. Then I uninstalled the app deleted telegram_2.0.8.1 folder which was created while launching the app.
4. Then restarted the device.
5. Installed the app and tried to launch. Again failure at the splash screen.

P.S. two more users also reported the same issue at Ubuntu Store reviews.

After update 2.0.8.0 and 2.0.8.1 telegram doesn`t work.
Then I uninstall the app, restart the phone and install the app again.
The app doesn`t work, then I did the following steps and now is telegram running:
1. uninstall the telegram app
2. delete the directories ./home/phablet/cache/QML/Apps/com.ubuntu.telegram_2.0.4.0, ./home/phablet/cache/QML/Apps/com.ubuntu.telegram_2.0.8.0 and ./home/phablet/cache/QML/Apps/com.ubuntu.telegram_2.0.8.1
3. delete the folder .config/com.ubuntu.telegram
4.now I can start the app with new registration by telegram

Updated to 2.0.8.1 here but nothing changed.

I managed to copy the .config folder. However, I couldn't find any log for at ~/.cache/upstart/application-click-com.ubuntu.telegram.

@andrew If you still see the problem, would you be willing to share a zip of your telegram .config and .cache folders for debugging? If so please use my direct email
