Hi Randal. You mean there's new notifications when the device is turned on, but there's no notification feedback?

When I turn the phone on, I see new notifications. If the notifications came before I restarted the phone, I would expect them either not show up or just show up silently. Can you please provide a little more details? Or you mean there's no notifications at all?

Hi Michal, I'm not seeing (or hearing) any notifications on the system (i.e. message indicator, alert sound, notification bubble) for Telegram-related events. This occurs whether or not Telegram is launched.

I have this same issue on the Nexus 4 mako rc-proposed channel.

There is some inconsistency with incoming messages and being notified that they are there.

A few situations seem to occur independently without deliberate reproducibility:

0) The bug mentioned here: messages exist in-app, but we are not aware that someone has replied because there is no sound or green icon or pop-up

1) There is a notification (sound, bubble, green icon). You can read the message from the pop-up bubble, but then when going into the app, the message is not there

2) There are "number" notifications on the launcher icon, but that doesn't go away when entering the app, where the messages may or may not be visible

3) Notification with sound, message, and message shows up in the bubble and in the app (i.e. normal, expected functionality)

I confirm I have not received any notification (audible, visual or haptic) from Telegram for several weeks now. (It might be since OAT 8.5, but I am not sure).

That's on a MEIZU MX4.

Rudiger, I would advise opening Telegram app settings, and toggling notifications checkbox off and on. This should re-register for Telegram notifications. Put it to background, and ask a friend to send you a message. If you're still not seeing a notification, we would need logs off that device (/home/phablet/upstart/cache/application-click*com.ubuntu.telegram*).

PS Please let the developer mark as 'Confirmed'. Incomplete only means we require more information to be able to process the bug, thank you :)

I can confirm that the workaround described in comment #6 resolves the issue on Nexus 7 (flo). Thanks Michael.

Michal and Randall,
cover my face, but I cannot find any option to turn notifications on or off. See attached screenshot of my Telegram settings dialog: there is no such option.
(Sorry, I'll have to attach the screenshot later. I'm writing this comment from my Ubuntu phone, and the launchpad app is so broken, the 'add attachment' button just does not work. Thats some experience that is prevailant either Ubuntu Phone: trying to fix one big reveals three others. Sorry.)

(And curse that auto correction. It seems not to have any context sensitivity at all: Why is 'bug' autocorrected to 'big' while writing to a BUG tracker???)

Here's a screenshot of my Telegram settings dialog. Note the complete absence of any option relating to notification.

Are you signed in with more than one account perhaps? Only one (first/primary) account can have notifications.

I only have one account with telegram. The settings dialog of my telegram app really hasn't any option for toggling notifications.
However, the general system settings scope of Ubuntu phone features a 'notifications' page. I can turn on and off notifications for telegram there. But that's not what you referred to in comment #6?
