To add audio support to ubuntu-touch Telegram is really really very important, did I say "really" already?? It would be that you have to keep pressing on a "microphone Icon" and you record the voice-message, just like in other Telegram available versions.

Hello,

I agree to the fact that this feature is really really important!

Is the developing proceeding? The message (sms) app added this feature already! But I can't send mm to everybody, I want to write with Telegram ! I am not a developer, but would it be possible to "copy" the code of canonicals sms app?

I hope the developing will start (and finish!) quickly, because this is not a little feature, but it's really, really, really important!

Hello Alex,

Thanks for your input,
we disabled the audio feature in UI since the backend libraries,
which did not support such the feature yet.

Now it's glad to get the news that we have a update on the libraries,
with audio feature support -- so at the moment,
we are trying to do the rebase work on that,
as you said this is a really important feature,
of course we agree and will do lots of validation on that to check it works.

Thanks for your concerns again,
any news about the development we will let you know.

For the audio message receiving part,
we had below branch merged into our main trunk already.

I see the message receiving part is already implemented as of last month, I'm guessing it will be coming with next release?

Anyway, May I suggest, for the time being, delegating the voice note recording to another application. In my case I'm using "Recorder" from the Ubuntu Store and right now It's already possible to record a voice note and send it at once (like I can take and send a picture in a single step by clicking the send photo button). The only problem is the telegram APP is using the wrong API method, because it's not recognising the OGG format as a voice note, and the generic sendFile method gets used.

Hi @Josep,
yes, the next release will have audio receiving enabled.
About voice sending: API is good but a file recorded by "Recorder" app cannot be sent as audio voice message because it is encoded using another codec (you won't be able to play it from Android/iOS), the missing encoder bug was fixed today (bug #1630399 ) and it will be released in OTA-14.
Telegram-app audio sending code is ready (I'm the contributor who worked on it) and it will be reviewed and merged ASAP however I don't know if it will be in next release. If you can't wait you can try to build ~d.filoni/telegram-app/audio_receiving_and_sending branch, it will only work on OTA-14. If you build that branch yourself please post here your tests results ;) thank you!

Hi @Devid,

Thank you for such a quick answer, and for working on this feature!

I thought the telegram API didn't enforce additional constraints on the codecs used, my bad.

I'd love to contribute by beta-testing your branch, but I'm unsure on how may I get OTA 14. I only found OTA images up to 13 (the one I have) for my device (BQ Aquaris E4.5). Is it possible for me at all to get OTA-14 working? It seems it hasn't been released yet.

Hi @Josep,
telegram API doesn't enforce the codec but, if the ogg file is not encoded in opus, telegram-app on iOS/Android won't be able to play the file.

OTA-14 AFAIK will be released in few weeks, I think you can use rc-proposed channel to test that branch, please only make sure you have gstreamer0.10-opus package installed. I'm looking forward to your feedback ;) Thank you again!
