Bug Description

The helpful feature of the initial password box, whereby an X is display if one has entered a character that is wrong, seems to have a bug.

Just now (but I have rebooted) I changed my password (to one that starts with a capital letter - which may or may not be relevant). SystemBack gives me a big ole red 'X' when I enter that letter - but accepts the password when I click 'OK'.

Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon.
SystemBack version 1.8.201 (I think).

I considered marking this as a security vulnerability . . It does have to do with security.

Unfortunately I could not reproduce this bug. I changed my password, opened the Systemback and tried to input the first character (capital letter), but nothing. I do not see any problem.
Please give me some more details. So is this problem related to the fact that you changed your password (with capital letter)? If so, then how do you change your password? What was the method? How long your new password and what is the capital letter?
What do you see before you click on the 'Ok' button? In default the button is disabled (greyed out), do not clickable, and if you input the correct password, then a green tick (pipe) appears (instead of the red 'X') and the 'Ok' button turn clickable. Please attach a screenshot when the 'Ok' button is clickable with the wrong password (and with the red 'X').

I attach screenshots of the situation when (1) I've entered the first (capital) letter of the (7 character) password, (2) when I've entered all the password's characters. (When I've entered an intermeditate number of letters, the situation remains at the state shown in 1, except that more black dots are displayed.)

Actually, I think I may be being silly. Perhaps SystemBack always shows the red cross until the password is complete - yes? I can't recall.

I changed the password by terminal (the command 'passwd'.)

Ah; here's the other screenshot - which corresponds to my point '(1)'.

I do not see your first (1) screenshot, I only see the second one when your password is accepted.
But it may be that I have misunderstood your problem. If you enter a character then the Systemback checks the match, automatically. If your password lenght is longer, then you see the red 'X' because the entered password is wrong.
For example, if your password is 'alma':
a != alma X
al != alma X
alm != alma X
alma = alma ✓
Try the Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V method for the password input, you will not see any red 'X'.

But what is this "An error occurred" window? Is there any correlation with the Systemback?

I am sorry - one of the screenshots I attached was for a problem that has nothing to do with SystemBack. I attach the screenshot that I *should* have attached to this comment. That screenshot shows a situation in which the red 'x' appears.

But there is no bug here, in fact. At most, there is a misunderstandable - I misunderstood it! - feature of the user interface. For the password box does indeed behave as you said it does (and designed it to), i.e. it shows the red cross so long as some characters have been entered that do not comprise the full and correct password. So, again: apologies.
