Kevin,

Thanks very much for the bug report! This looks quite serious, so I'll get on this first thing next week (wont have time this week).

Can you provide any more details on what you were doing leading up to this? How did things get into a state where "apt-get install -f" was needed? Mind sharing what dependencies where missing, what packages you were trying to install?

Ah... are you using systemd for PID 1?

Hi Jason,

I'm attempting to use systemd as a result of other problems and the indication that systemd was reaching near readiness.

I recently encountered problems with prey: The web site kept suggesting I try the beta web page, which then claimed my prey client was out of date. Digging lead me to believe systemd would fix things there, and apparently did. But I'm not sure what else it may be breaking.

I didn't know that the ticket I filed had something to do with the attempt at systemd. Sorry 'bout that. For what it's worth I'm attempting to follow the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/systemd

Kevin, this bug report is super helpful all the same, no need to apologize :D

Now I know that I need to write a systemd unit for the system76-driver daemon sooner rather than later.

Thanks!

Still having troubles. The package ended up in an inconsistent state,
and I had to manually edit /var/lib/dpkg/info/system76-driver.* to
remove the references to invoke-rc.d before I could uninstall.
Reinstalling at that point yields:

Setting up system76-driver (14.10.4) ...
INFO product_version: 'bonp5'
Failed to issue method call: Unit system76-driver.service failed to
load: No such file or directory.
invoke-rc.d: initscript system76-driver, action "start" failed.
dpkg: error processing package system76-driver (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 6

Kevin, I finally found some time for this! Merge proposal is ready:

Will be hitting the daily PPA soon, and the stable PPA perhaps in the next week or so.
