Only as long as you already have events for these locations logged. Am I right?

Nope, there are results shown from folders that are blacklisted and have no logged files in Zeitgeist.

Then perhaps they are in Recently used (Places > Recent Documents)?

Also how did you make sure they are gone from ZG? Please make sure using:
cd ~.local/share/zeitgeist
sqlite3 activity.sqlite 'SELECT * FROM uri;' | grep 'caseSensitiveFileName'

Whoops, there's a missing slash:

cd ~/.local/share/zeitgeist

The database is locked, but yes, the location is in Recently used - any chance of using the blacklist globally?
I guess this changes the bug to Wishlist.

My understanding here might be wrong, please correct me if I am: but surely if the items are blacklisted, then Zeitgeist shouldn't be logging them in the first place?

I find I have this same problem, but Gnome-Activity-Journal is showing everything as well. It seems to me that this is an issue with Zeitgeist not necessarily with Synapse?

I did some playing and I have a workaround at least...

I've posted a bug to the Zeitgeist guys with what I believe is the problem: https://bugs.launchpad.net/zeitgeist/+bug/724909

If you use Ubuntu Tweak (or probably any other method) to disable the "Recent Documents" list. Then Zeitgeist stops logging the blacklisted files.

Apologies, I see using Ubuntu Tweak actually stops Zeitgeist as well... so my workaround, well, does work.

I still believe that the issue is with Zeitgeist not Synapse

On my system the blacklist for Zeitgeist is working properly and blacklisted locations are not logged or visible in Activity Journal.

My problem is that the locations do show up in my .recent-files and Synapse therefore displays them.

What I'm asking for is Synapse to check the Zeitgeist blacklist when going through the recent files list.

Richard, make sure your blacklist entries are in the form of "file:///path/to/location/*".

This could use a workaround on synapse's side.
