Always show "Open with"-applications when a file is selected

Something does not add up with "Open with"-applications. For example, when I type "txt" and Synapse find a .txt file I can press tab and choose from a number of installed applications to open it with. When I try the same thing with .py I only get two options: Open and Open folder. The same goes for .cpp, .doc and the list goes on. The latter file types are associated with different applications, like Geany, Codeblocks and so forth.

There is no obvious pattern as far as I can tell. At least not yet.
