Bug Description
I use an old Lenovo G550 laptop with GeForce GT210M graphic card as a stationary PC, so it has a mouse, a keyboard, and an external monitor hooked up to. I don't use the built-in display, because the laptop sits under my desk.
I did a fresh installation of Freya, and everytime I wake the computer up from suspended mode, or even when it simply tries to turn off the display after 15 minutes of inactivivty, BOTH screens go blank and start flickering alternately, at a rate of about 1Hz. When the built-in display lights up, you can actually see the mouse pointer there, but moving the mouse or touching the keyboard doesn't help. However, when I click the power button, the system logo appears on both screens, and it properly shuts down.
This bug didn't happen to me on Luna.
there is a known bug in the kernel version we use for suspending and waking up from it. It also happens on ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04 so for freya and loki.
what you could do for the time being, is select nothing while sleeping or disable the sleeping after x minutes.
did you installed any nvidia proprietary drivers? if not try the nvidia drivers. this might resolve the issue. many ubuntu 14.04 users had the same problem and marked it solved when they installed the nvidia drivers.
the screen flickering is due the graphic cards driver because it can't wake up when it tries to.
little bug managing thing. it has nothing to do with the power settings of the elementary. i will redirect it
