Application Keyboard Shortcut that opens Files (but not Home folder in Files)

Bug Description

I frequently use the Windows+E key to open Files. Except it opens the Home folder in a single tab and forgets all my previously opened tabs. I can't then open it via Slingshot or Plank to see those tabs - since now the remembered tabs are lost.

Currently, the Keyboard Shortcuts offer a shortcut to Home Folder, but not Files. It would be nicer to have the option to be able to open Files by default, and additionally, configure it to open Home Folder straight away.

I think this report should be directed at the Keyboard plug bug tracker. There needs to be another entry under Shortcut/Applications for launching Files in the same way as there is one for Terminal. It is possible that that is what the "File Search" entry is supposed to be but it does not seem to be working at the moment.

There is a work around for this. In the keyboard plug go to Shortcuts/Custom. Press "+" button. Type the command as "pantheon-files" then Enter. You can now assign the shortcut you want e.g. Windows+E (delete this shortcut from "Home Folder" if you want to use it for Files) and it will launch Files with your previous tabs.

affects: pantheon-files → switchboard-plug-keyboard

Thanks, Jeremy. That's a comfortable workaround for now.

I hope to see this in a future version -- since opening applications in their last state / resuming seems to be the mantra everywhere -- except for Files. :)
