Cannot assign "Menu" key to execute slingshot

I used to have my menu key open synapse. Since synapse has a bug that prevents me from changing the default shortcut, I wanted to use slingshot. But when I press the "menu" key in the Keyboard Switchboard Plug, it remains deactivated.

I'm sorry, can you clarify which keyboard shortcut you're trying to enable?

Between the windows key and ctrl key on the right side of a standard
windows keyboard. It's not a combination of keys but a single key.

Cannot confirm for Freya, I can assign my menu key to open synapse just fine, although it doesn't close it, the settings assignment works fine.

I cannot set the menu key for a custom command (i.e. slingshot-launcher) either. I am guessing because it's considered a special key?

I think it used to work in freya, but it's definitely broken in loki.
