Bug Description

This could relate to the probing error, but I'm not sure.
Trying to install Ubuntu from a Sandisk USB flash drive on 2nd the partition of an external USB drive. Installation stalls at the "How do you want to install Ubuntu" with heaps of error reports. On disconnecting the drive and going back then forward, all is fine. Reconnecting the drive and the errors start again.
External drive is a Toshiba Basics 1TB HDD with 2 partitions:
1) ntfs around 800GB with about 660GB of data I do not wish to loose
2) ext4, on which I have copied the Ubuntu 24.04LTS ISO using dd. I thought this would work, but it won't boot. Was trying to install Ubuntu and boot from it, but PC won't list the 2nd partition as a bootable drive.
The PC is populated with 1x SATA M.2 drive 1TB (Windows boot)
1x nvme M.2 drive 1TB
3x HDD, Samsung and WD, 1TB, 2TB, 500GB
