Bug Description

Xubuntu 24.04 with the new Flutter installer. ISO 20240410.1

Installation failed with log:

RuntimeError: aborting install since no mirror is usable

See attached installer logs folder.

The installation took place in a VirtualBox VM. The network was seemingly not configured correctly, so web browsing didn't work until after the installation when I switched the adapter from NAT to Bridged and restarted the network.

So this outcome is not limited to xubuntu. I was able to produce the same result with the base desktop ISO as well.

The key here is a "deadnet" type configuration - active networking but not going anywhere.
I was however able to make the install work on the deadnet by setting the autoinstall policy
apt: {fallback: offline-install}

The code equivalent of that is a proof-of-concept that I think is overdue to make real, in https://github.com/canonical/subiquity/pull/1816, except I think server wants this default also and that PR applies this policy value change to desktop.

I *think* I managed to recreate this appropriately.

I did an install with the noble amd64 iso dated 15th April 2024, within a VM and disabled my wifi from the host machine.

The VM was then "connected" to a network, but with no actual internet access - I hope this is enough to mimic a "deadnet" network.

Anyway, my conclusion is that the install wasn't successful, please see the log attached.

Perhaps this change hasn't made it into the image of the 15th :)

Correct, this needs a newer snap than build 113 which is on the stable channel.
