ubuntu desktop noble install; installer has frozen

Ubuntu Desktop (noble) install on
- hp prodesk 600 g3 sff (i5-7500, 8gb, nvidia geforce gt710 (gk208b) + intel graphics 630)

Options used
- manual partitioning
- use sda3 (unused|empty partition, but already formatted) for /
- re-use sda5 for /home

** Expected outcome

Install completes; i reboot & login to new system

** Actual outcome

installer has just stopped...

the installer window has been stuck for some time.. Bottom says "Setting up the system", but the three orange thingies just stopped, so no changes in window for ~20 mins (guess; window is static though without any change/movement)

See what journalctl shows below; but the primary desktop showed only wallpaper; and the ubuntu-desktop-installer window (static!) I moved to the second monitor; no other windows are on screen

snippet; this is repeated a lot! but no window has appeared for me to enter any password. after the window was static for 15+ mins

i opened a terminal & watched `top` for movement and
- ubuntu_desktop_ (installer) sits above 100%
- and update-securebo sits ~ 15.6%
in apparent loop
