Bug Description

Hello,
I ran the subiquity installer with 22.04 Server on a Dell Optiplex 945 with Intel 945G.
Some text fields and option fields like "Close" have the same color as their background when I select them.
It only affect the blue/yellow subiquity version for legacy graphics, it does not affect the normal version in dark red that is run when I boot the same ISO in VBox.

Either the text color or the background should be changed to make it readable.

kind regards

Huh that's strange, it's like the attempts we make to set the colours on the console aren't working properly. Can you drop to a subshell, apt install colortest and run "colortest-8"? I guess this isn't a perfect test because the color modifications are undone when we start a subshell but it's somewhere to start.

This is the output of colortest.

Yeah that's some interesting interpretation of the colours. I wonder what's going on! Not sure I'm prepared to call this a subiquity bug though. Subiquity does have a black and white mode but for reasons I forget we only expose that when running on the serial console. I guess it would make sense to let users choose that always.

Ok, from which packet does that behavior come?
Is it possible to move that bug report?

Yes but honestly I have no idea what is going wrong, I've never heard of anything like this before. It could be a hardware issue? That looks like a CRT so presumably it's fairly old? But like I said, no real idea.

It is a CRT, but it works fine. I think it is a problem with the color
subiquity chooses.
Is there any way to find out which color is being used for the text and
the background?
I assume they are the same.
