Bug Description

Please check the star magnitudes. I am occasionally confronted with these errors: 1) 46 Vir is assigned a magnitude of 8.5 (!), while it is of 5.99 in the BSC and a bit more than 6 in Hipparcos. 2) Also, check 2 Com.

The Stellarium is assumed to be widely used by historians of ancient and medieval astronomy for a readily and easily finding of astronomical data. So, such errors should be taken seriously.

Dear Mohammad,

thanks for the report. Our catalog is a combination of several sources. Occasionally errors can occur.

Mag 8.5 is a bit much, indeed...

2 Com has 6.10. BSC gives 5.87. Not so big problem I think.

I always recommend using a second source to compare.

Changed in stellarium:
status: New → Confirmed
importance: Undecided → Low

Both stars are binary stars and Stellarium doesn't compute summary magnitude of these stars. It's definitely not just catalog issue.
