Stellarium 0.14.3 freezes Ubuntu 14.04 desktop

Stellarium freezes when interaction with date, view, location, help etc menus.
Trying to extract the log.txt file from the help tab will freeze it as well and toggling from full screen and back.
Sometimes it freezes the desktop after closing.
Sometimes it runs for 15 minutes no problem
Fujitsu Esprimo P400 i3 4Gb standard graphics

Interesting: Intel HD2000/3000 has been blacklisted as insufficient for OpenGL mode (but OK for ANGLE) on Windows.
Did a slightly earlier version like 0.14.1 or 0.13.3 work?

Can't say. This machine is new to me and I just took the latest Stellarium after installing Ubuntu.
Would rolling back to an earlier version be worth a shot ?

Ok may have fixed it, fingers crossed.
When I forced the earlier 0.12.4 using Synaptic I don't think I did the data files properly.
Now it appears to work fine, even toggling full screen and back won't freeze it.

We will likely not be able to do anything about it. Too many hardware variants, too many drivers.

What about current 0.16 series, on current Ubuntu 17 or 16 LTS?

I have rolled back to stellarium 0.12.4 and all is good.
I found out that my Intel standard graphics card is not up to the task on the newer versions of Stellarium.
I am happy with the way things are.
