Bug Description

Dell Studio 1558
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium - Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz, 1600 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 - Driver Version 8.680.0.0 (Last released by Dell - later ATI drivers cause BSOD)

Running Stellarium lasts up to a couple of minutes before it blanks to a black screen and have to Alt+F4 to close.

This has been the case with each Win 64 bit version released.

Dropped back to 0.12.4 Win 64 bit ... everything fine again.

You really need drivers for this graphics card. Are you tried check updates for drivers at amd.com?

Thanks for your response.

As I mentioned ... I have the most recent GPU drivers available ... that work. They have to be Dell specific ... for some annoying reason. The open drivers do not work on the Dell Studio 1558.

So, you can try 0.12.6 (32-bit only, sorry).

Just for collection (and this is can be helpful for us) - can you attach log from version 0.13.3 (good question: are you tried OpenGL and ANGLE versions?) and 0.12.4?

Hi

0.12.4 (64 bit) is the one I've had to go back to ... and it works just fine.

I'll also try 0.12.4 (32).

For 0.13.3 (64) ...

Logging ... is this on by default? ... or do I have to turn on somewhere?
Also ... where will the log be located?

OpenGL/Angle? I've only used in default mode. Where do I switch to the other mode?

Many thanks!

Comment for ANGLE edition - please try full remove previous version of Stellarium before installing 0.13.3-ANGLE.

Many thanks for your help.

Uninstalled and cleared all remnants of GL versions of 0.12.4 and 0.13.3 versions and reinstalled 0.13.3-ANGLE afresh.
Seems to be running OK. :)

So it seems to work with ANGLE, we can close this bug. If we ever create driver blacklists to auto-switch to ANGLE, this would be one...

Alexander.

Just upgraded to Windows 10 ... and a new driver has been installed.

It appears that the driver is compatible with OpenGL Version 4.5.13399

Does that mean that I'd now be able to run the OpenGL version of Stellarium without any problems?

Thanks.

=======================================================
The utility I ran to obtain the OpenGL version returned the following .... along with something about "Pixel format 11" and hundreds of "OpenGL extensions found for the current pixel format"

Video Card Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.
Renderer: AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series
OpenGL Version: 4.5.13399 Compatibility Profile Context 15.200.1046.2
GLU Version: 1.2.2.0 Microsoft Corporation

Yes. But you should remove ANGLE version before.
