Bug Description

Original report: https://sourceforge.net/p/stellarium/discussion/278769/thread/287136af/

In Stellarium, Arcturus has a color index of +0.82 and an apparent magnitude of +0.15. In reality, however, the color index is 1.23, and the apparent magnitude -0.04. This means that Arcturus as rendered in Stellarium, is too white and too dim.

Catalogs may differ in numbers. We can have 500 individual "bug" reports on B-V mismatch against Wikipedia within the next few days, or we can identify (and should declare) one reliable source.

I'd like to propose joining a few such bug reports

Arcturus (α Boo):
BSC5 catalog reports B-V = +1.23
SIMBAD reports B-V = +1.23
Stellarium tells B-V = +0.82

From Bug #1419558
Betelgeuse (α Ori):
BSC5 catalog reports B-V = +1.85
SIMBAD reports B-V = +1.85
Stellarium tells B-V = +1.52

Bug #1405467
Color index of 3.50 seems to be out of range of expected color index values

What is the procedure of preparing the stars_*.cat files?

I have a few star catalogs installed on the PC, so can verify indexes up to V=16 right now. And with SAMP support all indexes can be verified via the internet. Of course, that requires time, but the work should be done.
