Bug Description

This has been a bug for a long time in all versions I have ever tried. It does not effect operation but looks bad mostly. There appears to be some sort of gray mask behind/under the lower horizontal button bar. It does this on 2 very different XP SP3 systems with completely different GPUs/cards. The problem is very hard to see during the programs day-time hours so if working on this it is best to advance the program time into night time when the gray shaded buttons are and become very obvious. This is a minor issue but none the less an indicator of something not correct, it is not as it should be as the other two button bars are displayed correctly.

It's classic case: it's not bug, it's feature :) Via additional gray background on bottom bar show the logical groupping of managements items.

Well let me say it is a strange feature to have because the buttons are already arranged in groups and separated by small spaces so I personally see no need for the gray shaded mask, it looks tacky in my opinion, it does not match the other button bars and is not really needed, so maybe this should be listed under wish list and not a real bug. Has anyone else ever asked about this?

Thanks for the patch file, I have it saved in .txt format but now I have to figure out how to use it, is there a instructions link on how to apply these patches?

Thanks Robert

Unless you have the skills and development environment necessary for building Stellarium, the patch is of no use to you.

And the buttons background is the least of the HUD's problem during daytime - try selecting an object and reading the upper-left corner information box...

And yes, I agree with Alex - that patch is not a particularly good idea.

This will be a great idea, I am using v14.85.2 x64 but I do not see the button to turn off the background shading, I am guessing it will not actually be incorporated until 15.0, is that correct?

Thanks
Robert

It's available already. Please set gui/flag_show_buttons_background = false in config.ini

I cannot find that entry in the config.ini. I removed and re-installed 14.85.2 thinking I may be using an older .ini but even after the re-install I do not see that entry. I have view hidden files turned on and found the .ini under USERS, also checked the default config.ini in the Stellarium Program Folder but no entry for this. Am I looking at the wrong config.ini?

Thanks
Robert

I added the line into the config.ini and it works great. Will there be a checkbox to disable the backgrounds in future release or will this be a manual config mod?

Thanks
Robert

No plans for GUI, sorry.

That is a real shame as it really looks and works very nice. If no plans to add it into a clickable feature why bother with it at all? Seems what work has been done on this is then a waste as most people will not mod the config.ini file manually. This would be a good item to then add to the wishlist items.

I also noticed that the ocular on-screen control panel is either present or not present depending on selection and it blocks a portion of the screen when selected. It needs an auto-hide mode like the other two tool bars.

Also Multi-colored planet orbit lines would be a great upgrade but that one is already added to wishlist items.

Thanks
Robert
