Bug Description

The box that appears on the task bar with "Stellarium" in it does not always close when the program is closed, This is on two vastly different Win XP SP3 systems. It can be cleared/closed by a single mouse click on the desktop area. This is not a serious issue but annoying and hopefully just a issue with the RC versions. I have noticed this with 0.12.2RC1 and 0.12.2RC2 - Let me add also the good work going on as I notice several fixes in these RC versions and it is nice to see some actual progress being made - keep up the good work. Thank You

Yes Sir - Here is a screenshot of the box left behind after closing the program. It does not do this every time, but when it does it does not go away by itself and stays there until you click on the desktop.

Hmm... Interesting. Can you find some patterns which give this effect?

Out of 12 program open/close cycles it left this box after closing 4 times so about 30% of the closures. The pre-release candidate versions did not do this atleast I never saw it do it. Just RC1 and RC2. I will try to isolate a pattern but since it is doing this on two different XP SP3 machines that are considerably different I don't know that I can find a comon link. If I could re-download the last test version prior to RC1 I could re-try it. that might help narrow it down to the RC1 and RC2 versions. Is there a link to download test versions?

Sorry, I deleted all old binary packages. Do you got this troubles since RC1 or RC2?

Both RC1 and RC2 do this. It seems I have seen this before but some time ago in a much earlier version but have no idea which version that was. I have not found a pattern as of yet. It seems quite random so far.

I noticed today that this bug got worse after doing a system defragment. After doing a defragment of my HDD this box appears 60%-80% of the time after closing the program. Strange! I am now testing it to see if it improves on it's own after not doing a defragment for a time.

Stellarium shouldn't active use IO operations but possible "freezing" of Stellarium is related with saving of config.ini file.

The report is over a year old and concerns previous PCs. Is this still an issue?

Yes this still happens. It does not happen every time and I have not been able to find a pattern associated with it happening.

I guess that is one way to make a bug go away - just mark it "Expired" - that does not mean it is working now as it isn't and still does this on XP.

I think you can delete this bug report. XP is no longer supported by MS and most people have moved on to Windows 7+. This bug applied to a very old version of Stellarium and with newer OS and newer versions of Stellarium I have not seen this trouble.......
