Bug Description

I am using Stellarium 0.12.1 (Development). I have a laptop (Dell, latitude E4300) WIndows XP Pro SP3.
I start Stellarium and have it running in Full screen (or windowed F11 or Minimised) and I en- or disabled 'Set normal time rate [K]'.
Then I close the laptop; its goes into hibernation (I think that is the status called).
When I open the laptop, it asks for identification (and I only see a strip of the login screen). After inputting the password, I see the full screen of Stellarium. If I then do F11, Stellarium gets smaller. If I then minimise the Stellarium's window (although the minimise symbol it is visible...); the whole screen gets strips (see attachment) and the computer hangs, I need to press a long time the on/off button (Start and Task Manager do not work any more).

I can repeat this hanging using the above procedure.

I don't know if there are tools to determine in more detail the status when this happens...

Here is the login=screen after opening the laptop (so you see a strip only of the normal Windows XP Pro login screen)

Hi!
Apparently Stellarium (or just the Windows OpenGL drivers?) have problems with a program in hibernated or standby mode. I have similar problems on my Atom netbook. (no stripes, just black screen). WinXP on NVidia 8200 survives a standby. But usually I can kill it with task manager. no need to reboot.

Please send a logfile to identify your hardware, maybe somebody can fix this?
G.

How do I copy the logfile? (remember I am not able to make a logfile when
the problem occurs (as my systems hangs):

I see 'Log' in Help window, but I am not able to cut and paste that text.

All the best,

Victor

Ok, I found the log.txt file, see attached.

Could it be that this problem is solved in beta2 version (https://launchpad.net/stellarium/trunk/trunk/+download/stellarium-0.12.1beta2-win32.exe ). I can now close the laptop and after opening it all looks to work properly.

I still have this once in a while, don't yet know how to reproduce. It is
not any more when I close the laptop [that seems to be gone that issue],
but more after inactivity and then it goes in standby, but I am not able
yet to reproduce it, so bear with me!

All the best,

Victor

For some reason the hanging gets worse and worse the longer I have
Stellarium installed on my computer. I now have some time 0.12.2 (I
installed as soon as it came out). In the beginnign it all works smooth (I
can open and close my laptop and all keeps running). But after some days
closing laptop gives problems (hanging). It is now so that even not closing
my laptop will cause problems by hanging my computer.
I wish I knew how to debug it, so I could help the developers. Any ideas?

If this keeps on going, I will have to stop using Stellarium (as the
hanging causes me too loose other data on my computer, if I did not yet
close another applications).

If other people have the same problems, please let me know (including the
circumstances), perhaps we can find the problem (as I would not like to
stop using Stellarium!!!).

All the best,

Victor

Can you check memory usage of Stellarium before and after hibernate mode enabling?

yesterday another instance (. had not had a crash not much earlier (so had
to reboot machine).
. I started Stellarium to retrieve the version number, to put in my earlier
e-mail). directly closed Stellarium.
. After some time started Stellarium again and wanted to change the
location, so opened that dialogue window. Was able to type in the name, but
after that Stellarium froze and computer hung (CTRL-ALT-DEL did not work.
. had to reboot my machine.

Will check. In 0.12.1 I got more and more problems over time. Hanging
program, hanging computer. So I decided not to use 0.12.1 anymore (back to
SkyMap, but I do it with regret as Stellarium is way handier)), so I will
try this version. Thanks for your continued work.

P.S. Checking memory use with hanging computer is not feasible...
