Bug Description

Ubuntu Software Center is extremely slow and buggy.

I say it's slow, not because me, but because I've got powerful computers and it takes A LOT to load and using it. Overall, considering it's just a package installer and its goal is an simple task which has to be done quickly and easily: Install apps.

Also it has some bugs (for example logging-in with the ubuntu account or searching for some packages or just some freezes randomly). And it definitely needs to be redesigned.
For example, it does not show the repos you're downloading the app from or it does not allow you to just rate an app without writing some comment; the karma or "score" for the rates have to be improved (no just people like or dislike), allowing responses and responses from the developers. As well as the main window has to be definitely redesigned.

Don't get me wrong, I like this application over all the gui package installers out there; but it's precisely because of this that I feel it needs to improve many things to be a excellent and modern application (see play store or apple store); and I haven't seen many updates of it lastly...

So I strongly think ubuntu team should redesign it very carefully and re-implement it in a more efficient way (probably not using python).

Thanks for your interest, but this bug report is not useful because it covers at least nine separate issues. There is no conceivable way a developer could do anything for which they could say "this change fixes bug 1444147". Please report specific bugs individually.

Some specific performance issues are already reported <https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-center/+bugs?field.tag=performance>, showing the repository for a package is bug 892611, and replying to reviews is bug 1010444.

Fine.
I agree it's more than one bug. I've already included me in the affected people for those bugs, thank you.

I created this bug though, for the record that USC needs so many changes (keeping the idea, which is ok) that it possibly would be better to re-think it as a whole and re-implement it.

I still have some issues about the graphical design, while it's still something personal, I do think that it has to be redesigned thinking what the user needs and what does not need to see, how it could be more usable, etc. You know, Human-Computer Interaction stuff.
I am not sure if this can be reported as a bug though.

The "Ubuntu Store" on Ubuntu Touch is essentially a reimplementation of USC inside the Dash. I don't know whether that idea will work on the PC (or even whether it's sufficiently understandable on a phone), but we'll find out in the next couple of years.

Graphic design bugs are harder to report than other kinds, but not impossible. It helps to attach an annotated screenshot or a wireframe: see for example bug 834341, bug 961197, bug 1017454, bug 1076380, and bug 1028106. And as with any other kind of bug, it helps to start by stating the problem (e.g. "X is too prominent", "Y is badly aligned", "Z is visually confusing"), leaving open the possibility that there might be multiple possible solutions. (Even better, suggest multiple possible solutions and compare their benefits and drawbacks.)
