Bug Description

When speaking to software vendors, we ask for a banner and suggest they upload them to the store so we can promote their application as a featured application in GNOME Software. Unfortunately the process for defining what a banner should be, and how to upload it is not clear.

Could we please clearly document the specs and process and make it clear in the store how a developer uploads a banner image for use in GNOME Software.

Hi Matthew,

Do you have any previous design / requirements for the snap banners ?

The subject is floating around some forum topics:

 * https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/improve-method-for-setting-featured-snap-banner-image-in-store/1788
 * https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/restrictions-on-screenshots-and-videos-in-snap-listings/3087

but so far no concrete plans, to support 1 icon, N screenshots, M banners, etc

Celso, you don’t need to wait for any design before getting the Store to store banners separately. If possible, I suggest doing it soon enough that Gnome Software can adopt the new API before 18.04. If that doesn’t happen, code for handling screenshots will need to be more complicated, both in clients and in snapcraft.io, until 18.04 reaches EOL.

I reported the snapcraft.io counterpart as <https://github.com/canonical-websites/snapcraft.io/issues/342>.

Storefront working is shaping up in https://github.com/canonical-web-and-design/snapcraft.io/pull/1696

The 'new' banner support has already landed in the store and is stable and specific UI issues should be tracked in Storefront from now on.
