Bug Description

Using the same idea as KSmartTray, I have started coding a Gnome Applet for Smart, which is an icon in the Gnome tray to run some basic Smart commands. You can fetch the code in my sandbox branch, under contrib/smart-applet.

Hi, I've been trying this out for a while, and I noticed when smart-applet checks for updates, it freezes graphically. Is there any way that while it is checking for updates, it could still not freeze (and if the user clicks on it, it says "Checking for updates")?

Yeah, it could do a idle polling state machine instead of blocking on proc.stdout.readline() in the handler
