Bug Description

with the advent of openSUSE 11.0, in the rpm-md of a repo there is now a file with the extension .solv. The .solv file is not human readable, and offers a greater compression than is being currently implemented via smart. Here is an example of such a file http://download.opensuse-id.org/repositories/FATE/openSUSE_Factory/repodata/

The solv files are read with libzypp, afaik the xml metadata will still be there

Changed in smart:
importance: Undecided → Wishlist

Yes, they are read with libzypp. I'd still like to see smart take advantage
of this file.

As far as I understand zypp/RepoManager, the solv file is just a libzypp cache of the other repodata and not for distribution
