smart crashes before update operation after channel-update

Workflow:
1) I mark some packages for install/update
2) one package is not found in repo, so I update that channel
3) I again click on "apply update" to install the packages now (the package, which was not found before is not selected, although some others depend on it)
4) Smart gives a dialog, that the package is needed, and crashes

Can this issue be avoided entirely by re-applying/recalculating selections after a channel update? This would only need to be done if there were actually some selections prior to the channel update.
