Bug Description

Slingshot should support prompting the user for uninstalling an app when they drag the app from the launcher and drop it in an empty place, like the desktop.

Might need to be coordinated with AppCenter for the uninstall dialog.

I'm +1 here. It seems like a really easy and logical way to get rid of apps

I don't think people uninstall things often enough for it to need to be more convenient than installing it was. This seems more likey to be annoying and an unintendedly accessed feature.

What if the user accidentally fails dragging the icon to the dock? There'd
be an uninstall dialog right?

Ah that's a good point. I do think we need to have some very discoverable method for removing apps, but maybe you're right that this is too easy to be triggered on accident.

A simple menu on right clicking an app would be a pretty easy way to do it. We could also add other options like "Run as administrator" to that menu.

Another way would be to display a little "close" badge, similarly to iOS devices. Not sure how to trigger it though…

Lastly, dragging the icon to some kind of trash can would be a really dicoverable solution.

I'm all with Julien Spautz on this. Right now apps need to be launched from a terminal when you want to use them as root, so this menu could be more convenient.

Well I do definitely think we have a case for some kind of contextual actions for apps. And a menu is the obvious and typical way to provide this.

For some reason though, I feel like we should spend a little time (maybe just in the future) thinking about other possibly ways to show these actions.

Just my two cents: I think we should provide a context menu containing the quicklist and, maybe, a uninstall button, but I'd avoid a "Launch as Admin" as in many cases it doesn't really makes sense (what's the point of launching a web browser or a music player as root), those apps that may need it should provide it in their quicklist (although I don't like that practice, I think they should ask for permissions only when needed).

For the uninstall thing, the most obvious alternative is a bin button à la Chrome/ium's speed-dial, which should be more discoverable and more touch-friendly.

I think there should be Desktop Actions and Shortcut groups (the stuff in the .desktop file that is shown in the dock on right click) listed. And, of course, an uninstall item.

FWIW, I'm now -1 on the drag thing. Too easy to mess up. But since we have context menu support, might make sense to offer uninstall there.
