Bug Description

BUG 1054772 is similar to this one, but I am using different (latest as of today) Skype Version (4.1.0.20) on Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit.

Installed Skype through USC, it is the latest one (same version as in Skype website, for ubuntu multiarch).

After installing skype-wrapper:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:skype-wrapper/ppa
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install skype-wrapper

And successfully allowing the Skype API Authrorization request, whenever I receive a message:

1 - The messages won't show up at the Ubuntu Messaging Menu

2 - For incoming messages I don't receive notification at the top right, instead I receive that tiny default skype notification at the bottom right

I have tried enabling and disabling the options found at "Skype Wrapper Settings" but its not helping.

I also tried completely removing Skype and Skype-Wrapper through synaptics ("mark for complete removal") and then reinstalling Skype from the Skype Website, reinstalling skype-wrapper and I still have the same exact behavior: incoming messages won't show up at the messaging indicator menu (the letter icon won't even turn blue), and

I don't know what else to do.

Could you please help?

Let me know if you need any logs or something.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Christian,

Thanks for looking into this.

"have you rebootet your computer after installation?"

Yes..

Even tried this:

1- removed skype and skype-wrapper at synaptics (mark for complete removal and applied).
2- rebooted (real reboot, not logout)
3 - installed skype downloaded from skype website
4- rebooted (real reboot, not logout)
5- installed skype-wrapper
6- rebooted (real reboot, not logout)
7- launched skype-wrapper
8 - allowed API authorization
9- same issue
10- rebooted (real reboot, not logout)
11 - tried again, same thing, messages won't show up at the Ubuntu messaging menu, it won't even change color to blue indicating new messages were received.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Can you kill the process skype-launcher please and then start skype-wrapper in the terminal

So I went ahead and killed the skype-launcher process and launched skype-wrapper in the terminal.

I have the same behavior (the messages I receive at Skype won't show up at the Ubuntu Messaging Menu and I get regular skype notifications instead of the unity notification popup which only woirks for skype friends getting on or offline).

here is the output I got when I ran skype-wrapper from terminal:

Sorry I have no ideas, as I'm not really a developer.
X Errors have something to do with the graphic card normally are you expereing problems with other programs too?
You could try to disable all the things you don't need in the skype-wrapper-settings.

This is not a problem with the messaging menu, but with how skype-wrapper integrates with it.
