2CV67, run the following commands
$ tar xf simple-scan-3.4.1.tar.gz
$ cd simple-scan-3.4.1
$ sudo apt-get build-dep simple-scan
$ ./autogen.sh --prefix=`pwd`/install
$ make
$ make install
$ ./src/simple-scan
