Bug Description
Since 16.10, simple scan does only scan one page. All subsequent scans only yield a black page (and the scanner does not operate physically at all). I need to close and reopen simple scan, then I can scan another page (but only one) before it breaks again.
This was not present in 16.04.

Similar problem here:
Simple scan 3.20 on Mint 18.1 usually fails to scan after 2 successful pages. Sometimes I can get 3 pages. It stops and displays a red banner saying "Failed to scan" and "Unable to connect to scanner".
If I switch the scanner off and back on again, and click "close" on the banner I can scan another 2 or 3 pages before it fails again. The newly scanned pages have a black bar down the left side. The crop function can be used to overcome the black bar problem.
If left idle in the middle of the job, after a short while, a yellow banner displays saying "No scanners found".
This with a HP Scanjet 2300c scanner (0x03f0:0x0901). I think it uses genesys.so.1.0.25 backend.
