PDF scan file size huge

Simple Scan 3.12.1 on Mint 17.2 Mate 64bit produces again huge pdf files. A four page 150dpi scan size was 18 Meg and could not be sent due to size limit. Under Win10 HP scan software produced a 328Kb 100dpi file of the same document.

Can you attach ~/.cache/simple-scan/simple-scan.log after this occurs? Thanks.

Ok. I scanned the same document and saved it as bugscan.pdf. Now it was "only" 6.4 Mb in size.

I am sorry but these files are my medical reports and confidential so I
cannot distribute them.
I can try to scan some other papers with both programs.

I have now scanned one page with both software.
Simplescan.pdf 1.3 Mb
HP-Scan.pdf 68,5 kb

I had the quality setting high on simple-scan. When I dropped it to the middle of the scale, the saved file size dropped from 1.3 Mb to 300 Kb.

OK, closing as the quality setting would cause the file to be so large.

Oukey dokey but simple-scan manual does not mention anything about the "Brightness", "Contrast" or "Quality" settings. The first two are more or less clear but the "Quality" function is unclear.
