Bug Description

Only within the past week, simple-scan does not launch when invoked from the terminal (or any method).

$ simple-scan -d
reports only:
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

# simple-scan
works fine, and I can scan properly, but the thought of running a user-level program as root frightens me, so I would prefer not to use this as a fix.

My operating system is Arch Linux, and I use pacman as my package manager.

This problem occurs with:
simple-scan-3.16.1.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz,
simple-scan-3.14.2-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz,
simple-scan-3.14.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz, and
simple-scan-3.12.0-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz.

Notably, I have previously successfully used the 3.12 and 3.14 branch packages listed above as a user, suggesting that not only simple-scan itself is the problem here.

Happy to provide any additional information which may be useful.

My guess is that your SANE drivers are actually crashing. Are you able to run through gdb and confirm this?
