Bug Description
Right now, I am using the crop tool, or opening the file in Gimp in order to measure the dimensions of items in screenshots or png comps that I open in a shutter session.
It would be very handy to have a small ruler / measure tool on the left under the crop tool. This would work at various zoom levels and prominently display the x and y offset from the start point. See Gimp's measure tool for behavior, but note that the measured dimensions should be displayed even more prominently than in Gimp's measure tool.
Advantages over the current shutter crop tool would be speed (no reset of the viewport, cancel to go back etc.. needed), and lack of a distracting dark overlay. Also, more clever features could be added.....
For instance, a fully developed measure tool could be used to burn in the measured dimensions into the editing canvas... ie, show the measurement, and then add a bracket with measured dimensions to the screenshot canvas.
I think this would greatly increase the usefulness of this tool to ui / web designers who very often have to work with dimensions and measurements at various different zoom levels. Measuring and having the option to document these dimensions in the same mode would be very powerful.
Thanks for your idea, but I can't promise to implement that in the near future.
