Shutter tray icon disappears

Bug Description
I have shutter set to show the tray icon. However, once in a while the tray icon will disappear, and will never be restored.
I can see the process is running:
$ ps ax | grep shutter
5982 pts/5 S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto shutter
11574 ? Sl 8:20 /usr/bin/perl /usr/bin/shutter --min_at_startup
Opening the shutter UI again doesn't check to see if the icon is present.
Killing the background process and then starting the UI puts the icon back.
