Bug Description

The mail filtering guide (https://help.ubuntu.com/12.04/serverguide/mail-filtering.html) encourages you to enable and start the spamassassin daemon (spamd) despite the fact that spamd is not used by amavisd-new at all.

I'm not sure why this was marked "invalid." It's now two years later and I'm back to report the same issue in the 14.04 server guide. Interestingly, the community documentation is correct:

"As amavis is its own spamassassin-daemon (amavis uses the spamassassin libraries), there is no need in configuring or starting spamassassin. amavis will not use any running instance of spamd! Even changes in /etc/spamassassin will have no effect on the behaviour of amavis."

Mike: As far as I know, the status was set to invalid for Ubutnu docs, before that link was deleted. The "new" status applies to the serverguide, which is where it belongs. Please know that we struggle to get server subject matter expert input on some of these bugs, which is why they linger.
